Windmill Harbour is conveniently surrounded by the communities of Stony Plain, Spruce Grove and Alberta Beach. All of these communities offer year round services to residents of Windmill Harbour.

 

Stony Plain
Nicknamed, ‘The Town with the Painted Past’ because of numerous murals that depict historical events and characters, Stony Plain is a growing town and current home to over 14,000 residents. A newly constructed ‘West View Health Centre’ serves as the public hospital.

Several local events and festivals take place in Stony Plain each year:

  • ‘Farmer’s Days’ includes a parade, rodeo and fairgrounds - first week of June
  • The Great White North Triathlon - first week of July
  • Blueberry Bluegrass & Country Music Festival  - early August
  • Cowboy Poetry & Country Music Gathering – late August

Spruce Grove
With a population of over 22,000, Spruce Grove is a small city 20 minutes from Windmill Harbour. The TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre provides a pool, soccer fields, gym and ice rink. Here you will find the conveniences of the Canadian Superstore, Walmart, Canadian Tire, specialty stores, dining and entertainment. In addition there is an urgent care centre and other medical services at Queen Street Place and a public library and art gallery at the Melcor Cultural Centre.

Alberta Beach
Located on Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta Beach was originally developed as a railway community and incorporated as a summer village that has grown into a popular beach resort. Alberta Beach is an established community of over 1200 residents with hotel and commercial facilities.
